From every elevation, the building will be transformed into a modern and attractive facility. On the upper level, specially designed backlit panels will clad the building and replace the dated and rusting metal cladding. At key points glazing panels will allow view out and let people outside see the activity within.
On the approach from Main Street the view of the building will be dominated by ground level signage that will disguise the existing modular storage extensions and provide a prominent and impactful approach. Facing the school, at ground level on the right hand side will be a new modular glazed extension and to the left the main entrance will be prominent and welcoming. Facing out to the left of the main entrance towards the football pitch and patio, a glazed sliding wall will allow a concertina opening in good weather.
In addition to the external transformation, there will be major redevelopment of the existing building. The existing sports hall, one of the only real assets of the building, will remain, however, it will be re-roofed and insulated. The main construction work will see the remainder of the building partially demolished, redeveloped and extended where the existing Muga pitch is located. This part of the facility will be completely transformed.
Whilst there will be a period of significant construction on site, we would expect to operate the sports hall on a commercial basis during the majority of the construction phase. The current plan is to utilise the storage units as a temporary reception during this phase giving access in to the main hall for various activities.
